A brief look at what a CBD is!

Hemp plant species contain a variety of cannabinoids, the best known by far being cannabidiol(abbreviated as CBD) and cannabis tetra phenol (abbreviated as THC). THC is explicitly banned and has a toxic component of psychoactivity. CBD, on the other hand, has various benefits for the body, including boosting the immune system, relieving pain and anxiety, and helping with sleep, among other issues.

A research study on the internet found that THC activates reactive neurotransmitters that increase anxiety and that CBD can act to inhibit voluntary arousal or increase related neurological responses. In layman's terms, CBD is ideal for people who wish to relax and unwind.

France will approve non-psychoactive cannabidiol (CBD) products, but the sale of dried cannabis leaves is still banned, AFP was told on 25 May by the "Palais de Matignon", the French prime minister's office.

Last November, in a lawsuit against France for banning the sale of CBD e-cigarettes, the EU Supreme Court ruled that CBD derived from industrial hemp plants is not a narcotic and is protected by EU free trade, and that Paris cannot ban plants and products authorised in other European countries.

After six months of amendments, the new French regulations will state that "the authorisation of the cultivation, import, export and industrial and commercial use of cannabis" should "extend to all parts of the plant, but require that the THC (psychoactive component of cannabis) content of the plant and the finished product be less than 0.2%.

The EU defines "industrial hemp" as having a THC content of less than 0.2%, which means that the source of CBD under the new French regulations is industrial hemp, and the derived CBD products must have a THC content of less than the 0.2% standard.

This decision will officially allow French farmers to grow industrial hemp and extract CBD to make derivative products, including CBD food and drinks, oils, tinctures, cosmetics, e-cigarettes, etc.

There are now a large number of CBD products on the French market, but legally they are sold in a grey area and are always at risk of legal action. With the new regulations, CBD products will have a formal legal status and companies that have been on the fence will no longer have to hesitate to sell them.

The new regulations will ban the sale of CBD dried flower leaves. "On the basis of public order and public health, the placing on the market of floral tops or dried leaves for smoking or herbal teas, as well as products containing dried cannabis, is prohibited." The French prime minister's office, the Palais de Matignon, told AFP.

"Unprocessed CBD flowers are often smoked and mixed with tobacco, which is harmful to health", the source said, declassifying to AFP, who also noted that authorised flowers "can cause problems when under police control". Without analysing the dried cannabis flowers seized, it is impossible to know whether the user is using a CBD-based cannabis plant or a THC-based plant.
